What is whiteness?

And why don't you capitalize the "w"?

Whiteness is the product of a choice; Blackness is not.

Blackness of the capital "B", specifically refers to the Afro descendants of slavery;

Because when Africans were enslaved, they were separated from their tribes and mixed so that they could not communicate with each other.

Blackness was the only unifying factor, beyond the collective experience of enslavement.

It was not a choice; it is a last remaining connection to identity, humanity and roots.

Whiteness is a nebulous identity that shifts from conquer to common villager depending on convenience; and it is designed to do as much.

It is a choice that can be embraced by those who have dark skin as well.

And so we all have a responsibility to confront this aspect of our identity's possibilities.

It is from this place of confrontation that we converse about how we might be able to individually, and collectively, move forward.
