DigiSnaxx

A local events and community board, on the surface.

But revolution in the undertow.

DigiSnaxx is meant to be easy, simple; an homage to an original, Craigslist.

DigiSnaxx also open-source; everything is designed to be transparent, and a learning opportunity.

While it is designed to be community funded; and not to make money.

Not to lose money either, but there's no top-heavy executive position getting stock-options for cutting costs.

But let's not get ahead of ourselves.

Local Local Local

Local events scraped from local sites, because that is why the internet was made.

And at this juncture it is more important than ever that communities find ways to extract themselves from malevolent tech conglomerates.

DigiSnaxx seeks to serve the small niche that is specifically interested in local events.

Instead of advertisements, we have promotions; economically priced membership is what keeps the ship afloat.

The History

I originally started building the idea nearly twenty years ago; collecting information about governance systems in the State.

Then I learned how to build web scrapers in Python so that I could collect city, county and state calendars.

The current iteration expands on this idea, and scrapes local art, music, and business websites to collect as many events as possible.

The Economics

I started building this codebase over twenty years ago ...

Some of it got lost, but some of the code is over 10 years old; which is to say, it is robust. It doesn't take much to run, nor too much to maintain.

So a little bit can go a long way.

With membership costing $10 per month, a directory listing and a classified is provided.

Admittedly this is an introductory price, though will be kept available as the entry point for local businesses and entrepreneurs.

Additional classifieds can be purchased by businesses, or the public at-larger, for $5 per week (7 days), or $20 for a month (30 days).

Classifieds are composed of a headline, and a subtitle; user may click an icon to open a frame which will include either paragraph, or image; per the owners preference.
